A Message from the Chair

 Dear Friends and Supporters,

It is a pleasure, as Board Chair, to reflect on another year at Peterborough Child & Family Centres.

PCFC continues to be an organization that is growing, adapting, and finding new ways to support children and families in our community. Behind that work is a strong team of staff and leaders, supported by a committed and engaged Board of Directors.

For the Board, this has been a year of strengthening our governance and preparing PCFC for the years ahead. We have benefited from excellent Board retention, with many directors choosing to continue into second and third terms, while also welcoming new perspectives to the table. Our annual Board self-evaluation was overwhelmingly positive and gave us some helpful areas to continue working on together.

We have also continued to put good governance practices in place. This included updating a number of policies and committee Terms of Reference, strengthening our approach to CEO succession and performance management, and adopting a new Code of Conduct. With the approval of our new Articles of Incorporation in May 2025, PCFC is now fully aligned with the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act.

There has also been important work happening behind the scenes to prepare for PCFC’s next strategic plan. The Board has been considering what the organization will need to remain strong and sustainable, including future capital and accessibility needs, risk management, and the ongoing stewardship of our facilities and resources.

We are also pleased to see continued attention to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, with updates to the Board highlighting the important partnerships and work happening across the organization. New annual HR reporting has also strengthened the Board’s ability to provide meaningful oversight in this area.

Good governance is often about the work that happens quietly in the background, but it matters. It gives our staff and leadership the foundation they need to focus on what matters most: supporting children, families, and our community.

I want to thank our staff, volunteers, funders, partners, and fellow Board members for their commitment to PCFC. Most importantly, thank you to the families who continue to put their trust in us.

It is exciting to see where PCFC is headed, and I am grateful to be part of that journey.

With sincere thanks,

Jane Pryde, Chair, Board of Directors

A Message from the Chief Executive Officer

Dear Friends, Partners, and Supporters,

Whenever I reflect back on a previous year, I’m struck most by the people who make this work possible and so rewarding for me personally — the families who put their trust in us at really vulnerable time in their lives, the staff who show up with heart, knowledge and expertise every single day,

the volunteers (including our amazing Board of Directors) who selflessly donate their time, and the partners who believe in what we’re building together. PCFC truly is an incredible community.

It was a year of both steady, hopeful progress and lots of change along the way. We built new partnerships, grew key programs, and maintained our singular focus: making sure expectant families and young children have what they need to thrive.

A few highlights we’re especially proud of:

      • A refreshed relationship with the Public Health Agency of Canada gives us a strong, predictable foundation as we prepare to launch an updated workplan that responds to the most vulnerable families in our community.
      • Opening childcare spaces at the School for Young Moms for young parents continuing their education beyond high school.
      • A major expansion of our Student Nutrition Program bringing 100 additional schools in our broader region onto the program by June 2026.
      • A new partnership with Trent Health in Motion, funded by Petro-Canada’s Caremakers Grant, providing new clinical information and support to women during pregnancy and after birth.

And while we’re incredibly fortunate to have such a committed team of long-term staff, we said goodbye to Deb, Susan, and Virginia, wishing them all the very best in their retirement. We also welcomed Barb, Kyla, Riva and Shelby to our expanding PCFC team.

With more than 3000 parents and children using our services this year, we truly are building a future where every child and parent can share, learn, and grow.

With gratitude,

Nicola Lyle, Chief Executive Officer

Peterborough Child & Family Centres serving the Peterborough City and County community since 1983.

With sites in the City of Peterborough, Apsley, Lakefield and Norwood we offer a variety of programs and services: ♦ EarlyON Programs – Indoors & Outdoors ♦ Community Action for Prenatal & Child Health Program (CAPCHP) ♦ Breastfeeding and Well Baby Clinic ♦ Parenting Programs ♦ One-On-One Consultations ♦ Toy & Book Lending Library ♦ School for Young Moms ♦ Student Nutrition Program

The Student Nutrition Program in Central East Region continues to grow with year two of the National School Food funding. 78 new schools were offered the funding and support needed to launch a student nutrition program.

A generous grant from The Schad Foundation allowed us to purchase the equipment necessary for these programs to get started.

Each of the 7 communities within Central East are supported by a Local Planning Partnership. These partnerships raised over $460000 to further meet the needs of local Student Nutrition Programs.

Our Child and Family Educators completed in-depth Conscious Discipline training and are now bringing that learning to life across all of our programs, sharing its concepts directly with families.

Conscious Discipline is a social-emotional learning framework that helps both adults and children develop self-regulation through connection, safety, and problem-solving. Rooted in strong relationships and the belief that everyday moments matter, it gives children the tools to build emotional skills and navigate behaviour in ways that feel healthy and age appropriate.

Our Breastfeeding and Well Baby Clinic provided support to 277 parents and babies

802 families with young children explored the outdoors in all kinds of weather by participating in our outdoor parks’ programs!

Program Highlight

Babies First

Babies First, our prenatal nutrition program, saw an increase in the number of participants we serve.

The introduction of the app StoryPark, as a communication tool, was very well received by our participants and helped strengthen communication between staff and families. Regular posts sharing resources and photos from the program supported family engagement and helped create a strong Babies First community where families connected with one another and experienced a sense of belonging and support.

We were also fortunate to welcome valued community partners to our programs, including a social worker, addiction counsellor, infant and child development specialist, and public health nurse. Their involvement allowed us to provide a wide range of supports to the families we serve.

272 parents and young children living in challenging circumstances received specialized support.

School for Young Moms

Supported 22 new and expectant parents with high school education, parenting support and childcare.

The program also offered licensed childcare to 4  infants whose parent(s)  were attending education programs offsite.

Over 4,665  library borrowing  transactions  processed and 334 new members
